A community radio station that started broadcasting in Papua New Guinea's autonomous region of Bougainville just last year has been recognised for its efforts to achieve social change. The small New Dawn FM defeated a field of nearly 20 contenders from around the world to take this year's UQ School of Journalism and Communication's 2009 Communication and Social Change award. The award recognises people and organisations who have used media and communication to achieve social change in difficult circumstances.
