Welcome to the DXer.ca website. The DXer.ca has been on the air in one form or another for over a decade now - in a variety of different forms. Our original domain name was espresso.ts.uvic.ca - and that went online in 1995! DXer.ca contributors and moderators include Ian McFarland and Bob Zanotti formerly of RCI and SRI respectively. Your editor and creator, Colin Newell, has been a radio enthusiast since 1971. DXer.ca will soon be creating a team of voice-over professionals for a wide variety of media and broadcasting tasks - stay tuned.

CD Release News! - Series 3 Release Date! Now - PayPal BUY-NOW link above. Will be adding the traditional surface order form shortly. Prizes! The 1st 25 CD orders will have their names placed in a hat - and the winner gets a copy of... Well, let's let Ian McFarland say it...

Ormond Raby - the story of Reginald Fessenden and the world's first radio
broadcast, as a first prize!
Thanks Ian. Ian also mentions that he has a raft of other SW memorabilia for give-away to some of the runners-up. Hey. This sounds like fun! Here is the purchase button with some more choices - for thse folks that want more than one copy of the CD Set. Yes, it is a great gift idea!

Ian McFarland  and yours truly on Happy Station! Last night we did an interview with Keith Perron of Happy Station for a show to be aired in early June 2009. You can download the rough-cut, fully unedited version here. The show airs at 0100 UTC in North America today -- meaning 1800 Hours (Pacific) and 2100 Hours Eastern Standard Time today - check it out!

June 18, 2009 CD Series Three updates! Printing and duplicating of Series-3 "Yesterday and Today" - 20 years in SW Broadcasting is underway - by hand in my home lab until such time as a demand is established. We have about 10 pre-registered buyers. Our initial plans to professionally print and duplicate 500 (or 250) sets in fancy jewel cases and packaging is too ambitious - especially in light of the fact that we are raising money for a charity. I will be posting a PayPal link and a form link for those that wish to order via traditional surface post.

Click here for the cover art in rough cut. And fresh it is! We combine a little of the old - going back to 1989... 20 years ago - and then zipping into the future... today, talking to some of the finest minds of International broadcasting. We are pretty much done - judging by the overwhelming response on our poll (upper right...) - we are sure this CD is going to be a hit.

In our dialogue on the state of radio broadcasting, we bring in Ian McFarland, John Figliozzi, Kim Elliot, Jeff White and Bob Zanotti - men with strong opinions and lots of experience.

Series-3-CD Yesterday and Today also features many voices from the Kulpsville - SWL Fest 2007: Harold Sellers, Brian Smith, Skip Arey, Michael Murray, Harold Kones, Bob Dunn, Mickey Delmage, Chris Field, Alan Johnson. Round table members include Ian McFarland, Bob Zanotti, Jeff White, Kim Elliot, John Figliozzi and yours truly - Colin Newell.

The dual CD set will contain a minimum of 160 minutes of material - a little of the old and a lot of the new. Purchasers of the 2-CD set will get some free access to online features and extras!

Stay tuned for regular updates - the material is done and we are thinking of having this package professionally duplicated - and, as usual, reasonably priced - 100% of the proceeds going to the community foodbank in Ian McFarlands community.

CD Release! - Series 3 Release Date!
Now

In the next couple of days (June 19, 2009), I am going to be putting some mp3 samples of the CD series-3 on the dxer.ca homepage, ostensibly to generate some much needed excitement.
Review queue news: We have finished testing the AirNav Radar box from Durham Radio - now perhaps this is not a traditional gadget that the average DXer would have on their radio table. None the less, we had a lot of fun with it - And at a price tag in excess of $700, there are not likely to be a big line-up of non-pilot radio enthusiastics for one. Click here for our initial photo shoot of the AirNav Radarbox.
