Power was restored Tuesday to the transmitter for Duluth radio station WEBC-AM 560 after five days off the air.

Power was restored Tuesday to the transmitter for Duluth radio station WEBC-AM 560 after five days off the air.

The ESPN Radio affiliate had been off the air since Thursday because of a storm-related water leak. Water got into the station's transmitter building near U.S. highways 2 and 53 in Parkland, near Superior.

On Monday, a crew put a new roof on the building while engineers worked to dry out the equipment.

Merry Wallin, vice president and general manager of Gap West Broadcasting in Duluth, said the station went back on the air once equipment dried. She said the holidays played a role in the amount of time off the air.

"We needed some tech support from Harris, who is the maker of the transmitter," Wallin said. "When we called, they were on holiday."

WEBC has been on the air since 1924. It has transmitted from the Parkland site since the mid-1950s. Its studio is located with three sister FM stations on Central Entrance in Duluth.
