MONTREAL — Two Montreal AM radio stations closed their doors overnight after years of broadcasting news and musical hits, Corus Entertainment announced.
AM Info690 Montreal and AM940 Montreal's Greatest Hits were simply "unprofitable," their owner said in a statement.
Despite earnest efforts to grow their audiences and revenues, and operate them as efficiently as possible, "it is clear that these two AM stations are not viable, particularly in the current economic climate," Corus said.
The closures affect 10 positions, including three journalists, an on-air host and two traffic reporters.
The operating licenses for the stations will be returned to the Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission.
