POCATELLO - Many of us have made the switch to HD television but have you ever heard HD radio? A local media group is the first in southeast Idaho to now have HD radio.
KQPI Pocatello's County 99.5 is the first radio station in southeast Idaho to broadcast in HD. HD radio technology can enable increased sound quality and offer more listening options.
If you have an HD radio you can receive HD2 and H3 channels, which are additional stations on the same dial.
"Unlike the analog, where you tune it in on a dial, there is no going back and forth. Its digital, its locked in and you either have it or you don't and its CD quality," said Bob Spencer, Pocatello's Country 99.6 Morning Host.
To take advantage of HD radio, you'll need a new radio receiver equipped to receive HD radio. Most portable HD radios will run between $30 and $50.
