The contest was officially launched on March 2, 2009, to mark the 10th anniversary of VOVNews.
The Radio Blog contest reflects characteristics of the Voice of Vietnam by incorporating sound, personal expression and inspiration for young people.
Addressing the awards ceremony on March 11, Deputy Director General of VOV Hoang Minh Nguyet thanked the participants for showing the power of music and sound to share their feelings with friends, relatives and society.
VOVNews created a website in form of a forum to serve the participants. Over the past 11 months, the forum has drawn 573 regular members with a total of 1,041,575 page views and 200 recordings submitted to the website. 30 percent of them were recorded and set to music by their authors. The rest were created by the editors of the Radio Blog programme from the authors' written texts.
Under the contest rules, each contestant was allowed to submit no more than 3 recordings but many candidates enthusiastically sent 5 or 6, showing the keen interest of some young people in the Radio Blog contest. According to the organising board, many recordings have high-quality, moving content, attract lots of page views, and are often excerpted and quoted. VOVNews and Radio the Voice of Vietnam have received great publicity from the contest.
Radio Blog has helped young people explore their interests and learn more about radio broadcasting on the internet.
