SOFIA, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian National Radio on Tuesday started broadcasting a special program to promote understanding of the oriental nation.
The first of the monthly series, "Closer to China," was broadcast in Bulgarian and centered on the forthcoming World Expo in China's largest city, Shanghai.
Program anchor Nevena Pramatarova said future editions would cover culture, the arts, education and science.
Zhang Zhonghua, cultural counselor at the Chinese embassy, told the Bulgarian audience on Tuesday the World Expo, which starts on May 1, was expected to draw millions of visitors in the next six months.
The Chinese diplomat said the exposition would serve as a platform for mingling and comparing different cultures from around the world.
Founded in March 1930, Bulgarian National Radio now broadcasts in 11 languages and is a full member of the European Broadcasting Union.
