In the program: The foundation of European DX Council and
Broadcast Bands Tips

At the moment there are around 40 DX-Listeners Clubs in 17 European countries. Some of the clubs are members of the European DX Council, also known as EDXC. Each year an annual meeting of representative DXers from some of the clubs is held in one of the European countries – not all, due to various reasons, like financial and others. This year the annual meeting will be held in Turkey thanks to the support of radio Voice of Turkey. The forum will take place from September 30th to October 3rd in the capital Ankara.
In the early 1960s, in order to stimulate a close contact between listeners and their clubs in Europe, the DX-Listeners Club in Norway sent out an invitation to establish a common DX Club for the whole of Europe. A preliminary committee consisting of DXers from Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands (then called Holland), Norway and Sweden, was established at the 1966 DX Parliament at Skoevde, Sweden. On June 4th, 1967 in a meeting held in Copenhagen, Denmark with representatives from Denmark, Germany, Holland, Norway and Sweden was officially decided the foundation of the European DX Council as an organization for DX-Listeners Clubs in Europe. The first rules of EDXC included the following: the members should discuss matters of common interest and make the results public in the form of recommendations. The aims of the Council should be:
1. To promote cooperation and goodwill between European listeners and their Clubs;
2. To achieve common objectives in the field of radio listening;
3. To stay in close contact with other DX – organizations throughout the world;
4. To improve contacts between listeners and radio stations.
The members of the EDXC were European countries and their respective DX organizations chose representatives to the Council, one from each country. Various Working Committees had to be established, consisting of representatives of the Council with other DX-experts as consultative members. The Working Committees which have been established were:
1. Reception Report Committee: state common demands to listeners reception reports as given by radio stations, and approves the report forms produced by the DX-Clubs;
2. Landlist Committee: defines DX countries and thereby makes a common list ;
3. Contest Comittee: make standard rules for the DX Contests;
4. Information Committee : diffuses the knowledge about the DXing hobby to other persons, radio stations, companies, etc
Now with decline of radio listening and the number of radio listeners just a few DX clubs are members of the European DX Council. The two DX clubs in Bulgaria that existed in the past were closed a few years ago. By the way for those who are interested in this year's EDXC Meeting and details, please write to the Secretary General of EDXC, Mr. Tibor Szilagvi at tiszi2035@yahoo.com .
