Broadcast tips

DX Mix by Ivo Ivanov

Many of the radio listeners around the globe are members of DX clubs, which are organisations helping them exchange information and share experience. Since 1967 many of the European DX clubs have been members of an association called European DX Council or EDXC. The initiative for establishing the association came from Norway, where in 1966 a group of listeners decided to send invitations to the clubs in Europe. It was proposed that a European DX Council should be established. The organisation has kept its original name since its establishment.

Initially 9 countries supported the idea. In the town of Scoevde, Sweden the chairmen of the DX clubs from Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Norway and Finland gathered and established the so-called DX Parliament of Europe. This happened in 1966 as Elman Eligsen from Norway was elected Secretary of the organisation. During the next year the constituent agreement of the Council was prepared and invitations sent to all DX clubs in Europe. On June 4th, 1967 in Copenhagen , Denmark a number of representatives of listener's organisations gathered to establish the European DX Council, which had 4 major goals:

to promote co-operation between European DX listeners and organizations;
to coordinate joint initiatives in the sphere
to promote cooperation with all radio stations in the world
to improve contacts between DX listeners and radio stations

It was decided that members of the Council could be European clubs, represented by radio listeners, but only one from each country. 4 committees, which also included independent experts, were also created. These were:

A committee responsible for the preparation of reception report forms, which listeners send to radio stations.
A committee responsible for preparing a DX Country list
A committee responsible for organizing DX contests
A committee promoting DX activities in media

Since 1967 representatives of clubs and members of the EDXC gather for an annual conference in some European city where a DX club exists. The only exception was during the past year when the conference took place in Ankara, Turkey. In the small town of Melnik in Southern Bulgaria there isn't a DX club too, but the annual EDXC conference is to take place there in August, 2011. The participants are also to pay a visit to the Bulgarian National Radio in Sofia.

DX calendar
