 KBS Media, the company which spearheaded the Korean Wave with its drama series Winter Sonata, has announced its merger with KBS Internet.

On July 1, KBS Media officially consolidated its online content distribution with its off-line distribution. The move is geared towards better serving its markets in Europe, South America, Middle East and Africa.

'It was a strategic response to a market that is becoming more and more competitive, to maximise scale efficiency', KBS Media said in a press release. KBS Media is a subsidiary of Korea's leading public broadcaster, KBS.

Last year, sales by KBS Media and KBS Internet recorded about US$150 million. KBS Media envisions becoming a global marketing company and is now aiming to double its sales figures by 2015.
