Sancti Spiritus RadioCuba broadcasting division has managed to improve the quality and coverage of the radio and television signals in Gavilanes and Casilda regions, both under the Plan Turquino mountainous program.
According to the division head Alcibíades Aguilar Gomez, two new 50 watt television transmitters were installed in Gavilanes, which also benefit nearby areas. This set is supplied by the National Electro-energetic System (SEN) and supported by an emergency power plant.
Casilda station was provided with a one kilowatt medium wave radio transmitter which avails the reception of Radio Trinidad local radio station in mountainous areas. This also required other actions like placing a 72-meter height tower and renovating the whole infrastructure which was damaged by the 2005 Dennis hurricane.
Aguilar also pointed out that despite the reception is not good in certain locations like Algarrobo and El Pedrero, the absence of signal is not reported in any of the local mountainous communities.
