 Prasar Bharati Broadcasting Corporation plans to soon set up 839 new FM stations in 290 cities in India,
according to Secretary of the Union Information Broadcasting Ministry Uday Kumar Verma. PBC is India's
 public service broadcaster.

The new radio stations will be a part of the country's private sector, and the region of Jammu and Kashmir
is a focal point for the initiative, Verma said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who launched the 10 MW FM Channel-2 Radio Kashmir, also known as
"All India Radio," expressed a hope that more FM Channels will also join PBC, according to the Hindu
Business Line. Abdullah also reportedly said that the license fee for the private parties intending to launch
FM stations in the state would be half as compared to the rest of the country, as would be true of rental fee,
according to The Statesman.
