India's Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) today agreed to re-broadcast an environmental

programme by Radio Netherlands Worldwide through its radio network.

The weekly sustainability show 'Earth Beat', will carried on IGNOU's Gyan Vani radio network.

The show focuses on what people "create, develop, conserve and destroy" and interacts with those who are

making this transformation.RNW Director General Jan Hoek said: "India is one of the priority regions of RNW

and for us IGNOU and RNW form an ideal match. Students are the future opinion leaders and therefore the

most suitable audience for Earth Beat."

The Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Rajasekharan Pillai, said: "IGNOU is a

mega-university seeking to strengthen the natural and human resources of India through the launch of a

number of academic initiatives in the area."

He said the agreement with RNW to re-broadcast the programme would complement the efforts of the

university in generating awareness and educating people about the serious environmental concerns of our times.
