Many things make us who we are. Our people, our places, the traditions we hold dear. Whatever qualifies as 'Kiwi'.

Radio New Zealand's role is to promote and protect our unique cultural voice.

To show how Radio New Zealand captures this voice, we've created ten model radios, woven from the fabric of New Zealand life.

Now you can show us how New Zealand sounds to you, by creating your own design for a radio.

The best designs will be brought to life by Weta Workshop and displayed as part of 'Sounds Like Us' at Te Papa.

For inspiration, you can view our Radios of New Zealand and see why they sound like us.

In your description, include any information that gives further explanation, meaning or context to your design.

Hint:
Your design will be more effective if you stick to one theme, rather than combining too many ideas. For examples, view our Radios of New Zealand.

Competition Prizes

The two winning designs will be brought to life as models by Weta Workshop.

Winners will have the opportunity to work with the technicians at Weta to create the best expression of their design.

These radios will then take their place alongside our ten radios in 'Sounds Like Us', on display at Te Papa from Monday 14th June.

Judging Criteria

Designs will be judged according to originality, how well the idea is incorporated with a radio and how well it captures our culture.

These criteria are more important than simply a well-drawn design.

All submissions will be brought down to a shortlist, which will then appear in the gallery on this site.

There will be two final winners:

  • People's Choice will be awarded from votes on the gallery.
  • Judges' Choice will be selected by a panel from Weta Workshop, Radio New Zealand, Te Papa and Clemenger BBDO.
