RTÉ.ie Entertainment: Hector & Tommy - 12th spot

Hector & Tommy - 12th spot

RTÉ radio remains the station of choice with household names like Ryan Tubridy, Joe Duffy and Rick O'Shea fronting some of the nation's most-listened-to shows.

RTÉ Radio 1's weekday schedule saw year-on-year gains to stay at number one in the national Top 20 and, along with 2FM, boasts over 1 million listeners.

Weekends on RTÉ Radio 1 and RTÉ Lyric FM also show that the swing to weekend listening has gained momentum with huge gains for Sunday Miscellany, This Week, Saturday View and Playback.

Head of RTÉ Radio 1 Ana Leddy said : "RTÉ Radio has 18 of the top 20 programmes in Ireland and RTÉ Radio 1 dominates the list.

"The year-on-year gains for Radio 1, in the context of the massive gains at weekends, show that Radio 1, during the day, in the evening and at weekend, remains the first choice for listeners nationwide."

Marian Finucane continues to make significant year-on-year gains while Miriam O'Callaghan has maintained her loyal listenership on Sundays. RTÉ lyric fm has seen gains for Niall Carroll's Classic Drive, George Hamilton's The Hamilton Scores and Lorcan Murray's Classic Drive.

2fm continues to win out decisively against the competition with a weekday peak-time share lead ahead of Today FM, which has fallen to 14%. The late Gerry Ryan remained firmly in place as the number 1 show for 20-44 year olds and the nation's 10th most-listened-to programme.

Head of 2fm John McMahon said: "We're not even six months into the reposition of 2fm for 20-44 year olds and already the results are reassuring.

"Not only, fittingly, did Gerry Ryan hold onto the number one spot for 20-44s, but we have seen The Tommy & Hector Show (12th), Ballbusters (13th), The Will Leahy Show (14th) and Dave Fanning at the weekend (20th) all debut in the 20-44 year old top 20.

"Rick O'Shea's new show now enters the top 10 in joint 6th position and Colm & Jim-Jim re-enter the top 10 in 10th place. It tells me conclusively that we're moving in the right direction."

Head of RTÉ Radio Clare Duignan said the figures for The Gerry Ryan Show were a fitting tribute to the late broadcaster.

She added that gains for programmes in the core 9am to 2pm weekend blocks proved that RTÉ Radio 1's mix of conversation, analysis and comment is " first-choice for listeners," while 2fm continues on its journey to win the 20-44 year olds of Ireland.
