What is Robocon?
It is an annual robot contest which has been held since 2002, just for university, college and polytechnic students in the Asia-Pacific region. Under a common set of rules, participants will compete with their peers from other countries to create a robot using their creative and technological skills within an open competition. This contest aims to foster friendship among young people with similar interests, as well as help advance engineering and broadcasting technologies in the region. This event will be broadcast in your country through an ABU member broadcaster.
Since 2002, the event has been held in Thailand, Korea, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, Japan, Egypt and it returns to Thailand in 2011.

Teams each comprising four members (three students and one instructor) from the same University, Polytechnic or College. Team members must be enrolled at the same institution at the time of the international contest. Masters students or Postgraduates are not eligible.
Travel and hotel expenses for the representative team to participate in the finals in Bangkok will be borne by the ABU. There will also be special awards for teams with outstanding inventiveness.
How to compete?
One team represents one country/region. If there is more than one team from each country/region, the local broadcaster may hold a domestic contest to determine the best team to represent it.
What is the theme?
Themes vary from year to year. Themes are chosen to stimulate the imagination or participants so that they may push the limits of creativity. The competition is aimed at encouraging as many university and polytechnic students to take part, regardless of their technological and financial constraints.
The ABU Robocon 2010 held in Cairo on 21 September 2010, saw the participation of 17 teams from 16 countries/regions.
